SUMMARY:Stronger Together: Women's Peer Support Group & Assistive Technology Joint Group | Shandra Martinez
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Shandra Martinez  | Topic: Preserving Family Stories \nSometimes\, the best way to move forward is by looking back. The stories of our relatives and ancestors carry lessons of strength\, courage\, and resilience that can inspire us today. \nJournalist Shandra Martinez\, founder of Legacina\, has spent more than 30 years capturing people’s stories. Now she’s focused on helping others preserve their own family histories. In this session\, you’ll learn simple\, accessible ways to gather stories—from scanning old photos and recording oral histories to asking questions that spark meaningful memories. Discover how involving multiple generations in the storytelling process not only preserves your family’s legacy but also strengthens your own resilience and self-esteem. Walk away with practical tools\, inspiration\, and the confidence to begin honoring your past as a powerful guide for your future. \nNote: This month’s Women’s Group will meet jointly with the Assistive Technology Group. Shandra will be leading a discussion on family storytelling and the resilience that grows from these shared connections. \n— \nAre you feeling isolated and bored? Would you like a chance to share your triumphs\, struggles\, and insights with others who can understand\, empathize\, and benefit from your experiences? \nPlease join us for our virtual women’s support group meetings\, where you and other women with disabilities determine the topics for discussion. We are a friendly group that discusses such topics as employment\, travel\, hobbies\, advocacy\, and more\, all from our unique perspective as women with disabilities. \nWHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU? \n\nA chance to meet new friends\nThe opportunity to learn new strategies for coping with life’s challenges\nA place to unwind by sharing your struggles with others who can relate to your experiences in a judgement-free environment\nA chance to put your problems into perspective by being supportive of others\nIncreased confidence in public speaking and group interactions\nA chance to learn about and share tips and resources\nLunch Provided from 12 – 12:30\n\n  \nFor more information or to RSVP\, please contact: \nLisa Sullivan\, Information & Referral Specialist \nWork Cell Phone: (231) 286-4226 \nOffice Phone: (231) 332-4033 \nMain Office Phone: (231) 722-0088 \nEmail: lisas@disabilitynetworkwm.org \nAddress: 27 E.
